According to the Smyrna-Vining Patch, a 64-year-old resident of Smyrna, Georgia died in a motorcycle accident in the afternoon of Sunday, January 12. The motorcyclist was riding his 2003 Aprilia through northeast Cherokee County on Conns Creek Road prior to the accident, according to a spokesman of the George State Patrol. Around 4:10 p.m., the motorcyclist approached Ball Ground Road when, for reasons unknown, he lost control of his Aprilia motorcycle.
Near the intersection of Conns Creek and Ball Ground Roads, there is an embankment off the shoulder of the former. When the 64-year-old man lost control of his motorcycle, he collided head on with the Conns Creek Road embankment and died upon impact. Emergency crews promptly arrived, but, thankfully, no one other than the motorcyclist was hurt.
Because motorcycles lack the protective shielding of a car, even minor accidents can yield catastrophic consequences, such as crushed bones and other orthopedic injuries, traumatic brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, loss of limbs, burn injuries and even death. Often, fatal motorcycle accidents are caused by forces outside of the rider’s control such as bad weather, adverse road conditions, negligent drivers or defective parts.
