Could Your Bike Be Confiscated If You Participate In An Unsanctioned Ride?

Most motorcycle rides are planned thoroughly. Routes are mapped out, rules on rider formation are given, and the police are contacted for help during the ride. All of this effort insures that every rider participating goes home safe, and that communities can enjoy the fun. But that’s not what happened on Sunday July 24th.

Could Your Bike Be Confiscated If You Participate In An Unsanctioned Ride?

The ‘Kill Da Streetz’ ride is a yearly event focused on the riders who have been lost over the year. The ride tries to bring awareness of motorcycles to the community so more drivers can be aware of motorcyclists. However, that message may have been lost during this year’s event.

Hundreds of motorcyclists converged on Denver and rode around town to spread their message. Unfortunately, they also caused some chaos that residents didn’t appreciate. People called the police and local news stations reporting speeding riders, stunting, and other unsafe behavior. At one point, the ride got so out of hand that traffic was stopped on I-25. The police aren’t amused by these antics.

Denver police have issued a Crime Stoppers alert asking Denver residents for info on the riders at this year’s event. They claim that many participants were riding recklessly and endangering the public. So they plan to use public nuisance laws to confiscate the motorcycles of any riders who were riding dangerously. They have asked for pictures and videos to help ID these riders.

Police say that they were never contacted about this event, and so they had no clue it was happening. This may have caused a ride for a good cause to get out of control, which can only hurt the reputation of motorcyclists all over the state. The attorneys who ride want everyone to be safe when they ride. Don’t let things get out of hand: you could hurt yourself and others.

A message from the attorneys at the Metier Law Firm—remember the riders we’ve lost, and stay safe.
