Buffs’ Start Spring Practice Without Marc Mustoe Following a Bicycle Accident

Sophomore Marc Mustoe was the most likely choice for coaches to put into the open starting left tackle position until he was involved in a bicycle accident this January. On January 21 at around 7:00 p.m., Mustoe was on his mountain bike riding home after a workout on campus when he was struck by a Chevy Tahoe. The accident took place on Baseline Avenue, and police estimate the SUV was going approximately 30 mph when it collided with the bike.

At 6-foot-7 and 290 pounds, Marc says he feels his size could be one of the main reasons he was not injured more seriously. “I left a huge dent in that thing,” he joked. “I feel like if it was anyone else, it could have been really dangerous.”

Mustoe, however, is still being held out of practice some two months after his accident because of his lingering concussion symptoms. How long he will continue to experience the aftereffects of this traumatic brain injury (TBI) remains to be seen.
