Greg Golden stopped his motorcycle at the intersection of 20th and Raven. He saw the truck coming behind him, but there was nothing he could do.
“I heard screeching tires, looked in my rearview mirror and saw the lights coming at me,” Golden told a Denver CBS news team. “All I remember thinking is ‘He’s not going to stop.’”
The truck smashed into Golden’s motorcycle, pushing it forward into another car. The driver fled, leaving Golden with crushed vertebrae, compression fractures and nearly half a million dollars in medical bills.
Local police say they have located the truck that caused Golden’s motorcycle accident, and that they are closing in on a person of interest.
Meanwhile, Golden is learning to walk again. With the aid of a walker, Golden can walk to the end of the block, which he says leaves him “really exhausted.” His wife Mandy left work to help her husband around the house, leaving the couple with no income.
“They took a decent chunk of my life for quite a while, so in a sense it is stealing,” Golden said.
Insurance should cover some of Golden’s medical costs, but he is still responsible for roughly $100,000. To help out with their costs, Golden and his wife are hosting a spaghetti benefit dinner in Brighton, scheduled for June 3.
