According to the findings of a survey recently conducted by Consumer Reports, Harley-Davidson and BMW motorcycles were found to be less reliable than Japanese-made bikes when comparing the frequency of repairs in a four-year period. Motorcycle Cruiser reported that the first-ever investigation into the reliability of different makes of motorcycles found that roughly one in three owners of BMW motorcycles needed significant repairs or experienced problems with their bikes during the past four years.
Owners of Harley motorcycles reported a similar percentage of repairs, with one in four owners also experiencing problems with their bikes within four years. However, only approximately one in 10 owners of Japanese-made bikes such as Kawasaki, Yamaha and Honda reported needing repairs on their bikes during the previous four years.
Participants of the survey reported that among the types of repairs needed on their bikes, they found that over the course of four years:
- Repairs made to accessories such as lights, switches, radio and other instruments were the most popular type of repair at 21 percent
- Brakes on motorcycles constituted about 20 percent of repairs
- About 16 percent of repairs were made to the electrical system of the bike
- The remaining 15 percent of repairs had to do with the motorcycle’s fuel system

A clean running bike is one of the best safety features you can have when on the road. Our Wyoming accident lawyers are riders too, and they know that when another motorist fails to share the road, it is oftentimes the performance of the bike that moves you out of the way just in the nick of time.
However, sometimes a well-maintained motorcycle or a quick reaction time is not enough to avoid a motorcycle accident.
