It’s nestled in the mountains on the border of Tennessee and North Carolina. It has 318 curves in 11 miles of winding road. It is probably one of the most visited motorcycling roads in the entire country. It is called “The Dragon,” and if you have ever ridden it, you know that it’s a ride that requires a lot of skill. There is a reason many riders say the Dragon can bite hard, and a rider from Louisiana barely survived just such a tangle.
When America’s Most Famous Motorcycling Road Bites
A man from Louisiana and his close friend from Missouri were riding the world famous motorcycling road—The Dragon. The two were carving up road deep in the foothills of Tennessee when the Missouri man suddenly braked, catching is riding buddy off guard. The two men crashed into one another, slid off the side of the road and into a deep ravine.
The man from Missouri landed 50 feet down and didn’t survive the fall. However, his riding buddy from Louisiana managed to survive his fall, which ended 105 feet from where the road ended. The man suffered 12 broken ribs, a fractured spine, and both lungs being punctured, but the fall was only the beginning.
Nobody saw the crash, and both bikers were so far off the road, no one could readily see them. The man from Louisiana tried to call out for help, but nobody could hear him. He resorted to calling 911 on his cellphone, sending text messages, and trying to post on Facebook. But when that failed the man refused to give up. He found water, waited through the night, and continued to yell for help. He was found 30 hours after the crash, and rescued from the mountainside.
Using his cellphone, the man recorded videos telling his family goodbye and that he loved them. Fortunately, he lived to share his feeling with them in person. The motorcycle accident attorneys here at the Metier Law Firm want to remind all motorcycle riders to ride safe out there.
