On the morning of May 28, a red Nissan Maxima was heading north on Taft Hill Road when it ran a red light at the LaPorte Avenue intersection and collided with a Nissan Pathfinder, according to the Fort Collins Coloradoan. The accident caused the Pathfinder to rollover and left both vehicles heavily damaged, but fortunately, nobody was injured. The driver of the Pathfinder was a 17-year-old without a license, and the driver of the Maxima was 39-year-old Ali Moftah Abuhagr of Fort Collins.
Multiple tickets resulted from the accident, according to Fort Collins Police services. The teen driving the Pathfinder was cited for driving without a license, and Abuhagr received a ticket for running a red light. It is unclear as to what caused Abuhagr to run the red light. Many times car accidents such as these are caused by a distracted driver who was too involved with their cell phone to pay attention to the road.
Considering the damage to their vehicles, both drivers are lucky that the accident didn’t turnout worse. Rollover accidents can cause traumatic brain injuries, spinal cord injuries and even death.
