One person is dead and three injured after a collision on Saturday, June 25, 2011 at 63rd Street and Nelson Road.
Lisa Norton, 32, of Boulder, CO was travelling eastbound around 6:00 p.m. when her Ford pickup collided with a Nissan coupe travelling westbound. Gabriel Nielsen, 33, also of Boulder was killed in the crash. Two of his passengers, Cherish Francis, 24, and a 2-year-old were injured. Both passengers were transported to Longmont United Hospital but were later flown to Denver Health Medical Center. Both passengers were reported to be in critical condition.
Norton fled the scene and attempted to escape by swimming across a nearby lake. Boaters pulled her out of the water and turned her over to Longmont police. Norton was taken to Longmont United Hospital then transferred to Boulder County Jail after being treated for her injuries.
Before colliding with the Nissan, Norton struck another vehicle causing property damage but no injuries. An officer Cobler stated that it looked like the pickup came off the right side of Nelson Road and that Norton overcompensated, crossed the center line and struck the driver’s side of the Nissan.
Alcohol is believed to be a factor in the accident.
