On Monday we wrote about a recent report from Allstate Insurance Company that listed America’s safest cities for driving. Fort Collins, Aurora, Denver and Colorado Springs all earned favorable marks in the list. In order to keep up the good work, here are some things Colorado drivers can do to avoid Denver car accidents.
- Stay updated. Find a list of Denver events that you can check regularly. If there is a big concert or festival going on, plan an alternate route or prepare for stop-and-go traffic.
- Plan directions in advance. Denver is a popular city for young, tech-savvy transplants. New residents and smartphones can be a dangerous combination. Resist the urge to use Google Maps in the middle of downtown during rush hour. Instead, program your trip ahead of time.
- Stay alert. Especially in warmer months, keep an eye out for cyclists and pedestrians. They have the right of way.
- Watch for motorcycles. The winding roads and beautiful scenery make Colorado an ideal home for bikers. When the snow melts, motorcycles are everywhere – and sometimes hard to see. Look twice at intersections to avoid a motorcycle accident.
Patience is a virtue when driving in highly populated areas like Denver and Colorado Springs. Avoid brash decisions in high-traffic areas, allow pedestrians to cross in front of you and resist the urge to use electronic devices while driving.
