Drugs Possibly Involved in Nebraska Motorcycle Accident

Britteney Baker pleaded no contest to hitting and killing a man on a motorcycle in June of 2012. Police reports say that she crossed the center line and hit Donald McCarville’s motorcycle, killing the 80-year-old rider.

When officers arrived, Baker said that the driver had fled on foot. She later admitted that she had been driving the car. Attorneys believe that Baker may have been under the influence of drugs when the accident occurred.

Police dropped a false reporting charge in exchange for Baker’s plea.

Drugged Driving and Fatal Accidents

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reports that 18 percent of drivers killed in fatal accidents tested positive for some form of drug. Many motorists often have difficulty spotting motorcycles. They are smaller than cars, they are harder to see at night and they can easily hide in blind spots. Any intoxicant can make seeing and responding to a motorcycle much more problematic.
