An 80-year-old Indiana man died last week after he sustained serious injuries in a motorcycle accident in Lake Placid, Florida on December 12.
Herbert Lemon was riding his 2007 Harley Davidson when he attempted to turn left onto U.S. 27 between Skipper Road and Lake Josephine Drive. Lemon turned into the path of a 2002 International semi heading north on U.S. 27.
The driver of the truck, Jose Soto Perez, 54, of Wimauma, tried to avoid Lemon, swerving to the right, but Lemon was struck by the driver’s side of the cab. The impact ejected him from his motorcycle, flinging him into the northbound inside lane of U.S. 27.
Emergency responders transported Lemon to Tampa General in critical condition. Five days later he succumbed to his injuries.
Authorities say that alcohol was not an issue, and that Perez was wearing his seatbelt.
As we always stress, awareness and caution are paramount for a safe riding experience. It is terrible that this man died from such an unfortunate accident. The tragedy points to the need for all riders to double and triple check before they make a move. Motorcycle accidents are some of the least forgiving kind.
