Excessive Speed Considered Factor In Peyton Head-On Collision

Charges may be brought against 25-year-old Sarah Larocca, the driver of a Volkswagen Jetta that caused a major head-on collision last month. Authorities said that Larocca drifted into oncoming traffic on Jones Road, and subsequently collided with a sedan traveling east bound. The force of the car accident caused Larocca, one adult passenger, a 1-year-old traveling with Larocca and two people occupying the other vehicle to sustain serious injuries.

KKTV reported that Larocca and her passenger were not wearing seatbelts at the time of the accident. The injured child was strapped into a car seat, but did break an arm. The violent crash trapped both drivers inside their vehicles. Responders on the scene had to extricate them from their vehicles. Colorado State Troopers believe that high speeds were a leading cause of this car accident, but it remains under investigation.

The Importance of Car Seats for Children

Our Colorado injury lawyer feels that no parent can take too many precautions when it comes to their children’s safety. While Larocca and her passenger neglected their own safety by not wearing seat belts, we are thankful they did help ensure the child’s safety by fastening the 1-year-old into a car seat. The car seat might have been the main reason why the child suffered only a broken arm, and not a traumatic brain injury or even wrongful death. Please consider these statistics from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) when traveling with a young child:

  • Child safety seats reduce fatality by 71 percent for infants
  • For toddlers, child safety seats reduce fatality by 54 percent
  • Booster seats, for children ages four to seven, reduce the risk of injury by 59 percent

Being properly educated about the necessity and use of child safety seats can help prevent major injury to your child if you are involved in a car accident. However, sometimes the negligence of another driver is unavoidable, and you may find yourself needing to go to court to fight for you and your child’s rights. Our Colorado injury attorney wants to help you hold the guilty party liable for the mistakes that have caused you pain and suffering. We have helped many victims nationwide, and want to talk to you about how we can help. Call us today at (866) 377-3800 for a free consultation of your case.

[Tom’s Tips: Using child restraints is linked to the driver’s own use of a restraint. 40 percent of children riding with a driver with no seat belt were themselves unrestrained.]
