A collision that occurred about five miles south of Lander, Wyoming, took the lives of five people, including a 17-year-old Lander High School student.
The head-on collision happened on Wyoming Highway 789 on November 10 when a Chevy Tahoe driven by the student crossed over the centerline into the opposite line, hitting a van.
The Fremont County Coroner Ed McAuslan says his office is still attempting to identify the other four victims, all of whom died at the scene.
“Two of the bodies were burned. They are going to Loveland (Colorado) for autopsy to gather information that will help us for identification,” he said.
According to Lt. Tom Adams of the Wyoming Highway Patrol, the van was completely engulfed in flames by the time the Lander Rural Fire Department arrived. They do not know if it burst into flames on impact or afterwards.
According to authorities, the wreck occurred just after midnight as 911 began receiving calls at about 12:12 a.m. Emergency responders continued to investigate the scene of the accident until 5:30 a.m.
This was truly a horrific wreck, and it appears as though there was not much hope for anyone involved to survive. Have you or someone you love been injured or killed in an auto accident?
