Fort Collins Drivers Considered Among “Safest in the Country”

An annual driving safety report named Fort Collins the fourth safest place for driving in the country. The only bad news mentioned in the report is that Fort Collins lost its first place position, which it had achieved for two years in a row. Fort Collins has ranked in the top ten safest cities for driving since 2005. The data comes from Allstate’s America’s Best Drivers Report. Statistics from the report include variables such as hard braking events, number of accidents and weather conditions to determine which areas in the country are the safest for driving.

On average, motorists in Fort Collins will experience an accident once every 12.7 years. This figure is great compared to the national average, which is one accident every 10 years. Compared to the national average, Fort Collins motorists are 21.1 percent less likely to be involved in auto accidents.

Is Fort Collins Really Among The Safest Places For Driving?

Is the report correct to claim Fort Collins is one of the safest places for driving? According to local law enforcement statistics, there have been 29 fatal auto accidents in Larimer County since the beginning of the year, compared to 24 deaths in all of 2014. In reality, fatal accidents have actually increased in the area, adding a bit of skepticism to the report. Other areas of the country are also likely to have more population density and a higher probability of accidents.

Car accidents can cause spinal cord injuries, brain injuries and death. Even if the report is correct, it is very important to be an attentive and responsible driver. Always avoid distracted driving, and follow traffic safety laws.
