As part of our motorcycle safety blog, we always want to take the time to inform our readers about product recalls. Harley Davidson has recently recalled 46,000 of its motorcycles in the US due to a defect in the clutch. According to Harley Davidson, the defect can lead to gas bubbles accumulating, causing the clutch master cylinder to fail to disengage. Once this happens, the motorcycle can stay stuck in gear, causing the motorcyclist to lose control. Motorcycles that have been parked for a long time are most at risk.
The recall will cover the Electra Glide, Ultra Limited, Street Glide, Road King models from 2014 and 2015, and the Police Electra Glide motorcycles.
Harley Davidson became aware of the defect after receiving numerous customer complaints. The motorcycle manufacturer reports that there have been 27 motorcycle accidents and 4 minor injuries.
Where Can I Find Recall Information?
By visiting Harley Davidson’s website, motorcycle owners can enter their vehicle identification number (VIN number) for recall information. Another way to check is by visiting safercar.gov, which is operated by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Motorcycle owners can use these resources to file a complaint, find recall information and safety alerts.
