Did You Know You Could Fight Racism with a Motorcycle?

Can you imagine walking up to your car and finding racial slurs keyed into the side? A mother in Derry, New Hampshire didn’t have to imagine it. She found racist messages scratched into her car. A few days later, she found more racist messages left on a sign in her driveway. Someone even littered her front yard with fried chicken and watermelon. The woman began to fear for herself and her biracial son until the community stepped in to make a difference.

How Can You Fight Racism with a Motorcycle?

Down the street from the boy and his mother lives a member of the Manchester Motorcycle Club. One day he was watching the news when he saw a story about what the woman and her son were going through. He recognized the house, and decided that he wanted to do something to help.

Talking with the mother and members of his local motorcycle club, the man arranged for a special treat. You see, the woman’s son had been frightened by the racist attacks, so the club members rode out and picked him up from school. 17 roaring motorcycles escorted this little boy to a frozen yogurt shop, and treated him to a dessert.

Members of the club wanted the little boy to know that he wasn’t alone out there. For all the hate that he and his mother have experienced, there are even more people in his community who care about him and his family. Since the visit from the motorcycle club, the racist incidents have stopped.
