Each year, Allstate releases a list of the 200 cities in America with the safest drivers. This year, four Colorado cities made the list, with Fort Collins coming in third overall. Fort Collins was ranked number two between 2006 and 2009, and number one for the past two years. Compared to the rest of the country, Fort Collins drivers are 26.7 percent less likely to crash into another vehicle.
Allstate spokesperson Stephanie Howell said that Fort Collins drivers “are aware of their surroundings. They put down that phone, they don’t participate in distracted driving and they’re just more aware.”
Denver, Aurora and Colorado Springs also made the list at numbers 55, 54 and 23, respectively. For the fourth year in a row, Allstate named Washington D.C. as the city with the most dangerous drivers. Sioux Falls, SD was the safest.
Allstate used reported claims from its own database to determine the cities with the safest drivers. Roughly 10 percent of the driving population has Allstate insurance coverage.
We are pleased to see our state represented well in this report, and we hope everyone continues to drive safe. Throughout the state, Colorado drivers face a unique set of traffic challenges that we will discuss later this week.
