How to Make Going to a Motorcycle Rally Safer

Another year at Sturgis has come to an end, but that doesn’t mean rally season is over. There are plenty of rallies left on the calendar, but before you saddle up to head to the next big event, there are some things you should do to make your rally experience just a little safer.

Can Going to a Motorcycle Rally Be Safer?

Did you know thieves have an easier time stealing motorcycles at rallies than they do from a grocery store parking lot? That’s because thieves often go unnoticed at rallies because there are so many bikes and people around. In a parking lot, it’s a little more suspicious to see a person fiddling with a motorcycle. So, it is important to make sure you have good security measures in place for your bike:

  • Be sure your insurance is up-to-date.
  • Be sure to carry your usual extra locking devices.
  • Having an alarm that makes noise helps expose thieves in rally crowds.
  • Consider installing a GPS tracker on your motorcycle just to be on the safe side.

You should also remember to drink responsibly when you are having fun at a rally. Drinking and riding don’t mix, and the consequences can be deadly. That’s why the Colorado State Patrol joined forces with the Colorado Department of Transportation and other regional law enforcement to increase patrols and man checkpoints. In total, 92 agencies teamed up during Sturgis to increase DUI enforcement.
