Man Creates Motorcycle That Can Survive The Apocalypse

A student at RMIT University in Melbourne, Australia, has developed a motorcycle that can collect sun and wind power as a source of fuel. The student claims to be inspired by a vision of fossil fuel scarcity he had while riding through the Highlands of Scotland in 2013.

According to the student, the thought crossed his mind that he and others will be unable to enjoy motorcycle rides at some point in the future. Then an idea came to mind – he would develop a motorcycle that could use the surrounding environment as a source of fuel.

The Strangeworld motorcycle, designed for an apocalyptic Australian environment, uses an advanced wind turbine that collects energy when the bike is not in use. It also utilizes solar panels to help store energy. As interesting as this concept is, at a maximum speed of 50 mph, the current prototype cannot travel for more than 15 minutes.

If the current model could not survive a trip to the grocery store, it could not survive the trials of a desolate apocalyptic wasteland. However, the creator hopes to release a version that can travel up to 500 kilometers.

Will Future Motorcycles Be Friendly For The Environment?

Considering the lack of an imminent apocalypse caused by oil scarcity or nuclear war, additional future motorcycle concepts that are friendly for the environment will continue to be developed. Electric motorcycles have created a buzz for being blazingly fast and cheap to use. Earlier this year, students at a high school in Mexico developed a motorcycle that runs on its own kinetic energy.

Our blog covers many stories of motorcycle events and groups that give back to the community, and providing a healthy environment for our future generations is a great way to accomplish that goal.
