What Can I Do About a Mild Brain Injury?
Mild traumatic brain injuries, or mTBIs, are a major health concern for returning Iraq and Afghanistan veterans, according to the US Department of Defense. The department says that many returning vets (around 15 percent) return with both mild brain injuries and some form of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
Findings from the University of Kentucky show that soldiers with both an mTBI and PTSD face more cognitive and psychological difficulties compared to soldiers with just one of those afflictions. Researchers compared three groups of soldiers: those with only PTSD, those with only mTBIs and those with both.
