One man was killed and another injured when the motorcycle they were riding was involved in an accident with an SUV on the morning of May 25, according to the Denver Post. The SUV was being driven by an 82-year-old man, who allegedly turned in front of the motorcycle, causing the fatal motorcycle accident.

“The motorcycle slammed into the SUV, throwing both men from the bike,” said Lt. Brian Ritz, Colorado Springs police spokesperson. “The elderly man failed to yield the right away and is being investigated for careless driving causing a fatal accident.”

Although riding a motorcycle can be exhilarating and fun, motorcycles lack the protection that a car or truck gives its driver and passengers.  When a motorcycle accident occurs, riders are exposed to a greater risk of injury and even death. All it takes is one careless driver—no matter how many precautions a motorcyclist takes or how safe of a rider he or she is, a person can suffer a debilitating injury or die through no fault of his or her own.

It is tragic when a motorcyclist suffers critical injury or death in an accident, especially when that accident is the fault of another driver.
