Motorcyclists Should Avoid Inciting Road Rage

Motorcycles give riders an incredible amount of freedom. They are often faster and more maneuverable than the vehicles around them, and riders can find themselves tempted to act less than courteously to others on the road. Whether we like it or not, an angry motorist poses far more danger to a motorcyclist than the motorcycle poses to the automobile. All riders should keep this fact in mind.

Losing your temper is the last thing you want while riding. It can cause you to ride more aggressively, which can be a recipe for disaster. Aggressive riding can put you in a compromising position, either by making you more likely to have a motorcycle accident or by tempting other drivers to vent their frustrations on you.

Even if you are angry, there are several things you should avoid, including cutting in front of other drivers, tailgating and gesturing rudely to an offending driver. It is important to remember that even if you are in the right, in a confrontation between a bike and an automobile, the motorcyclist always loses.

If another driver or rider upsets you while you are on the road, try to breathe, and pull over if necessary. You will thank yourself later.
