Why Should Parents Check Children’s Products for Recalls?

Do you know how to check for product recalls?Defective children’s products may cause fatal and nonfatal injuries. Products that include toys, strollers and playground equipment can safety defects. Manufacturers may recall these products after receiving reports of injuries from consumers. A recent example is currently being widely reported on by major media outlets.

Little Tikes recently recalled 540,000 of its 2-in-1 Snug’n Secure pink toddler swings after receiving 140 reports of the swings breaking. The defect poses a fall hazard to toddlers. Little Tikes also received 39 reports of injuries. Two of the reports claim children suffered broken bones.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has warned parents that the swings affected by the recall were manufactured between November 2009 and May 2014. Parents should look for the model number “615573” printed on the back. This is one product of thousands recalled over the years by the CPSC or manufacturers.

How Can Parents Check for Defective Children’s Products?

You can use the CPSC’s website to conduct research on product recalls. The CPSC website contains detailed information on recalled products and what parents can do to receive refunds or repairs.

Either check the recent recalls tab, or use the website’s search engine to check for specific products. If you were to type in “Little Tikes” into the search engine bar, it would pull up information on all products recalled by the company. You would also see a phone number to call the manufacturer for a credit refund after clicking your selection.

Unfortunately, manufacturers may conceal defects by failing to issue recalls. Parents of children injured by these defects may have legal options to pursue damages against manufacturers. Damages from a product liability lawsuit can help pay for medical bills, lost income and other expenses. An attorney can help you hold manufacturers accountable for causing injuries to your child.
