Peaceful End For Motorcycle Chase That Crossed State Border

Not much is known about a high-speed motorcycle chase that occurred on March 2. The Coloradoan reported that the Wyoming Highway Patrol attempted to pull over a motorcyclist speeding on US Route 287 near Laramie, when the rider quickly sped up to cross the border into Colorado. The motorcycle was clocked at reaching speeds up to 130 mph. Once over the border, authorities lost sight of the motorcycle for a brief period of time. A plane covering traffic for Interstate 25 was used to relocate the rider. The chase ended near Fort Collins without any injuries or crashes.

Do No Chase Laws Exist For High-Speed Motorcycle Pursuits?

There are a fair amount of riders that believe if they were put in a position to outrun a police officer on their bike, the chase would be called off after hitting a set speed, like 100 mph. This is not true, and we warn you not to try it out. It is true that most police departments have different departmental policies in regards to pursuing a motorcycle attempting to evade the law at a safe speed and distance. When you assume the risk of speeding, you also assume the risk of being pulled over.

We know how tempting it is when you are riding on the open road to twist the throttle a little more than needed, but excessive speeds on a motorcycle can make it easier for a rider to lose control of their bike. Motorcycle accidents caused by excessive speeds are often fatal, or the cause traumatic brain injuries and spinal cord paralysis.
