Rear-Ended Motorcycle Results in Fatality and Severe Injury

In a car or truck, rear-ending accidents usually cause bumper damage on the car and whiplash for the driver. On a motorcycle, damages sustained in this type of motorcycle accident are much worse, since riders do not have protection from the other car or from the road. On a Florida Turnpike in Broward County, the driver of a Ford Taurus rear-ended a couple on a motorcycle. According to NBC Miami, one of the riders died at the scene of the accident and the other is in critical condition.

21-year-old Yasciel Sainz operated the 2006 Yamaha motorcycle on which he and 18-year-old Idairis De La Cruz traveled. After 40-year-old Renzo Arrigo rear-ended them, the bike threw both of them onto the roadway. The teenage girl died there, and rescue officials took the young man to the hospital in critical condition. The car driver sustained minor injuries. Florida Highway Patrol continues to investigate the cause of the crash.

The motorcycle accident occurred around 11:30 pm, so this may have been a simple case of the car driver not seeing the motorcycle until he was too close. Still, drivers must be even more diligent to look for smaller vehicles at night to prevent accidents like this one.
