Could the Denver Police Destroy Your Ride?

On July 24th, the streets of Denver rumbled with the roar of motorcycles. Hundreds of motorcyclists had gathered for the “Kill Da Streetz” ride to bring awareness to motorcycle safety, but there were a few problems. First, event organizers hadn’t run their plans by the City of Denver or the Denver Police Department. Secondly, many of the motorcyclists involved in this rally weren’t riding safely.

There were burnouts, wheelies, and speed exhibitions on public roads. The rally even shut down I-25. The police department was swamped with calls complaining about the loud and reckless spectacle, but every time law enforcement arrived, the culprits had already left the scene. That’s when police turned to the internet.

Using online videos posted by people who attended this unsanctioned rally, police arrested three men. They are being charged with several crimes related to the gathering, but one of these men was especially unlucky. Police seized the man’s motorcycle, and instead of auctioning it off, they invited news reporters and smashed the bike into little bits.

Police Chief Robert C. White says this will serve as an example to others who want to ride dangerously on the street of Denver, but do you think this display will make a difference?
