Thieves Steal Memorial Items of Drunk Driving Victim

When Sandy Eversole of Colorado Springs visited the memorial near the intersection where her son David Mueller was killed by a drunk driver two years ago, she was met with an unpleasant surprise. Nearly all of the items that had been left at the memorial were gone save for the cross and a picture of David.

Sandy called several city departments to find out if any of them had removed the memorial and they all said that they would not have removed the items. It is odd, however, that everything but the picture and cross are missing.

I could see someone removing loose items, like stuffed animals, if they thought those items presented a danger to passing traffic and pedestrians. Maybe someone felt that the items had been there long enough, were unsightly, and that it was time to clean house. Regardless of why the items were removed, it would have been nice if the party responsible had left some kind of explanation.

On the up side, at least they left the cross and the photo to mark the spot. So, the memorial is still there, just in a pared-down form.
