Top Ten Worst Foods To Eat While Driving

Distracted driving has become more of a plague on our nation’s roadways than ever before. The combination of our on-the-go lifestyles and our constant connection to everyone around us through electronic devices leaves little room for focusing on what is most important in the car: focusing on our driving.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), 80 percent of all the nation’s car crashes involved some type of driver distraction. “Eating on the run” was listed as one of the common distractions.

Hagerty Classic Insurance, specializing in classic car insurance, recently conducted a study to see which foods were the most dangerous to eat while driving. Company President McKeel Haggerty said that it was more the issue of spilling the food than eating it. People were most likely to have a food related accident on their way to work in the morning.

The insurance company compiled a list of the top ten worst foods to eat while driving:

  1. Coffee
  2. Hot soup
  3. Tacos
  4. Chili
  5. Hamburgers
  6. Barbecued food
  7. Fried chicken
  8. Jelly or cream-filled donuts
  9. Soft drinks
  10. Chocolate

Each of these foods has inherent difficulties with spills and general messiness while driving. Any food, though, can cause distractions. Do your best to avoid an auto accident by remembering to pay attention to your driving.
