A woman in Scranton, PA, is in prison after going on a hit-and-run spree that endangered not only the lives of the people she hit, it endangered the lives of the children in the car with her.

On July 30, 2011 Mary Lukaitis, 32, of Scranton packed her kids into her blue Buick Rendezvous SUV and went driving. Her first stop: the intersection of North Washington Avenue and Green Ridge Street where she slammed into a red Buick Century driven by Michele Falvo. The impact was severe enough to trap Falvo in her vehicle – the fire department had to use the Jaws of Life to extricate her.

Unfortunately, the impact was not severe enough to keep Lukaitis from driving on to the next destination: Green Ridge Street and Wyoming Avenue where she hit a Chevrolet Tahoe driven by Amanda Marion.

The next destination on Lukaitis’ tour of destruction was a pile of stone slates stacked up at a property on 1701 Delaware Avenue. By this point, Lukaitis had lost at least one tire but that didn’t stop her from continuing on to the 1800 block of Nay Aug Avenue where she finally stopped and the police apprehended her.

She failed a field sobriety test, and was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence.  Michele Falvo suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was treated and released from the hospital. Mary Lukaitis was arraigned for reckless endangerment and is being held in lieu of $7,500 bail.

This event occurred within days of the two year anniversary Taconic Parkway tragedy where Diane Schuler killed herself and seven others, including her own and her brother’s children, while driving under the influence. Luckily, in this case, no one was killed.
