Zero Debuts Military Motorcycle for Stealth Operations

Motorcycle manufacturers are joining the automotive industry in the race towards electric transportation. Harley-Davidson recently released a prototype for a full size electric motorcycle, but Zero Motorcycles has been leading the nation in electric bike sales since 2006.

Recently, Zero debuted the Zero MMX military motorcycle, developed exclusively for U.S. Special Forces. The military contracted Zero to design these bikes, because their stealth and silence gives riders some unique tactical advantages.

The Zero MMX can go zero-to-60 in 4.4 seconds and operate safely in water over three feet deep. Unlike traditional combustion motorcycles, the electric powertrain allows for rapid movement while producing a minimal heat signature.

The military motorcycle is designed for off-road use, and it has a top speed of 85 MPH. Maintenance is simple, and with no gas engine, it is easy to avoid being heard.

The specialized design boasts several innovations, like keyless ignition engaged with dash toggle for quicker departure and quick-swap power packs. In extreme situations, safety overrides and reserve power capabilities help extend the battery’s range.

Zero MMX is environmentally friendly and cost efficient. A full standard battery charge only costs 50 cents and lasts about two hours.

Motorcycle culture is constantly evolving, as technology moves to provide more options and safety features. Unfortunately, innovation can mean more accidents as people adapt to the new technology.
